Day 68: Leaders Are Readers

Proverbs 9:9

Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still;
teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.

Principle

The more you learn, the more your capacity to know.

I was shocked when the publisher looked at me and generally dismissed men as non-readers. He may have some selective evidence to support his claim, but I refuse to believe that men are buffoons and imbecilic.

“The average millionaire reads one non-fiction book a month.” – Dave Ramsey

Charlie Jones states, “You are the same today as you will be five years from now except for two things: the books you read and the people you meet.” I believe that your world expands by traveling and by reading – I recommend doing both.

As a young man, I didn’t enjoy reading, primarily because my mind wasn’t in the habit of reading – I was slow to comprehend – I stumbled over the words – I was embarrassed and considered myself slow to learn.

In desperation, I picked up a book entitled, See You At The Top by Zig Zigler, which he advised me to develop the habit of reading one chapter of Proverbs each day of the month. After committing myself to this discipline, not only did I develop an insatiable appetite for reading, but my mind has enlarged its capacity to learn.

Our Advisor tells us, “Instruct the wise, and they will be wiser still.” In other words, as you learn, your capacity to learn grows. There’s unlimited potential in the ability to learn and retain knowledge.
