Day 32: A Manual For Living

Proverbs 1:3

A manual for living, for learning what’s right and just and fair;
to teach the inexperienced the ropes and give our young people a grasp on reality.

Principle

Everything created has a manual.

We have manuals for everything. When you buy an appliance, it comes with a manual. When you buy a car, it comes with a manual. If you buy your child a toy, it comes with a manual. It only makes sense that man comes with a manual.

Proverbs are like an owner’s manual for men. It’s a man’s book – written by a man to men. However, if you don’t read it, you won’t know the ends and outs of living successfully.

Sometimes men can be a little hard-headed when it comes to reading a manual. We open up boxes – tossing things everywhere – and start assembling without giving but a glance at the instructions. When we think we have it together, we look down to see that we have extra pieces and screws that we failed to use. That’s when we give up and read the manual. We usually find things that would have saved us time and effort – if only we would have taken the time to read the manual to start with.

That’s pretty much sums up the experience of young men venturing out in life only to find out that there are some pieces to this puzzle missing. We tend to educate children with knowledge but fail to give them wisdom. Then we wonder why so many young lives are messed up.

That’s not the case for us. We seek wisdom for living successfully – knowing how to discern what is right and wrong – having a sense of direction for living – judging fairly and making smart decisions.

Don’t try to assemble your life without getting directions. Share on X
