Day 295: Competent Workers
Proverbs 22:28
Do you see any truly competent workers? They will serve kings rather than work for ordinary people.
Principle
You can’t hide skill. Skill always gets noticed.
A young entrepreneur and I talked a few days ago about his growing company. I marveled at how busy he was and the demand of his time. Do you know the most significant challenge his new company is facing? Hiring skilled workers.
It’s an amazing paradox—we have the lowest participation rate in the workforce, millions unemployed, yet companies are begging for skilled workers.
My advice to this young business owner is based on the prayer that Jesus recommended. Jesus said, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest field.”
I realize this is speaking about the harvest of reaching people; however, I’ve also learned that the Lord can help a business owner find skilled workers. We can ask God to give us discernment for skilled workers. He can connect us with them.
Over the last thirty years, I’ve had a few to hundreds of employees to lead and manage. I can tell you that it has become a fundamental matter of prayer for me to ask the Lord for skilled workers.
Now, if you’re a worker, you need to ask the Lord to connect you with “great” leaders. You don’t want to serve in obscurity. You want to serve the best, and you will if you develop your skills and do your work with excellence. You can’t hide talent. Skill always gets noticed.
