Day 265: Know Your Boundaries

Proverbs 22:28

Don’t cheat your neighbor by moving the ancient boundary markers set up by previous generations.

Principle

We must honor those who established and defined the boundaries.

This precept establishes a code of honor regarding those who pioneered new ground – generations who paved the way for us and laid down boundaries. There is much more to this precept than meets the eye. It is amazingly arrogant for a young and zealous generation to disregard previous generations.

This principle doesn’t elevate tradition over progress; however, it does establish a cautious pause for us from acting willy-nilly on established boundaries.

Take the current agenda for those who want to redefine marriage – replacing a time tested and biblically mandated union between a male and female. Move this ancient boundary stone the value of marriage will be lost – the destruction of society will follow close at hand. Moving the stone of marriage isn’t progress – it is a degradation.

When I was raising my children, I established boundaries that protected them from the dangers outside of my protection. If their behavior or decision got close to those boundaries, I would pull them back. This action communicated that I love them and will protect them by keeping an eye where their behavior would lead them.

Remember:

Boundaries actually demonstrate our love and protection for those generations that follow us. Share on X
