Day 75: Don’t Kick Against The Pricks

Proverbs 16:4-5

The Lord has made everything for his own purposes,
even the wicked for a day of disaster.
The Lord detests the proud; they will surely be punished.

Principle

It’s hard to kick against the pricks.

At FivestarMan, we talk a lot about purposes. We know that men make plans, but God’s purposes prevail. We also know that when a man understands his five purposes, his life becomes a passionate pursuit of authenticity.

Amazingly, some have positioned themselves as adversaries of God’s purposes. An old Greek proverb says, “It’s hard to kick against the pricks.”

Farmers used a stick with a pointed piece of iron on its tip to prod the oxen when plowing. The farmer used it to steer the ox in the right direction. If the animal rebelled by kicking at the prick, it would be driven deeper into the flesh—causing even more pain.

A religious zealot named Saul “kicked against the pricks” of God’s purposes by opposing Believers in Christ – that is until Jesus interrupted his pursuit on the road to Damascus. After the prodding of Jesus, Saul aligned with God’s purposes and became a great apostle for the Church.

When a prideful person rebels against the right direction for God’s purposes, he suffers even more. It doesn’t make sense for a person with a few years of experience and limited knowledge to kick against the divine design of God’s purposes.

Some great men are opposing God’s purposes to their own destruction; however, if they realign their life in the right direction, God can use them for greatness.

Don’t rebel against the direction of God’s purposes. Share on X
