Day 337: Favor
Proverbs 3:34
He mocks proud mockers but shows favor to the humble and oppressed.
Principle
Humility attracts the favor of God. God makes fun of mockers.
The first time that favor is expressed in the Bible was when Abel gave the best portion of the first of his flock as an offering unto the Lord.
The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering, he did not look with favor. So Cain was furious, and his face was downcast.- Genesis 4:4
Notice that the lack of God’s favor profoundly impacted Cain—his face was downcast, which means that he was severely depressed. However, even after God’s prodding him to do right, Cain mocked God— thumbing his nose upward. Cain’s antipathy toward his brother drove him out of his mind enough to accept a murderous spirit.
The first murder ever committed was over the offering to the Lord.
As authentic men, our competition isn’t with brothers but with the man we were yesterday. Humility causes us to pursue excellence and honor toward God. God isn’t going to show us favor at the expense of another. God’s blessing flows to every man who is humble toward Him.
