Day 28: Is There Not A Cause?

Proverbs 28:1

The wicked run away when no one is chasing them,
but the godly are as bold as lions.

Principle

Men fear what they know about themselves.

Our adviser makes the object of fear or the absence of fear something that a man knows about himself. The wicked man runs while no one is chasing him. In contrast, the godly man stands firm regardless of the opposition.

Men fear what they know about themselves. The wicked have an unrighteous cause, and the godly have a righteous cause.

For example, King Saul led the Israeli army to the battle lines against their nemesis’ – the Philistines. When the undefeated warrior-giant came out to mock the Israelites and blaspheme God, Saul cowered in his tent. He offered a tremendous reward along with the king’s armor to the man who would face the giant.

Hearing the reward, David boldly stepped forward and asked the question, “Is there not a cause?”

The word for godly in today’s Proverb speaks of a man with a righteous cause. David’s assurance came from what he knew about himself – he knew that he had a cause. He had fought a lion and a bear, and the giant would be just another obstacle in the pursuit of his cause.

When you know your purpose – opposition is simply a hurdle on the way to your destiny.
