Day 216: Distracted Driving

Proverbs 4:19

The way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.

Principle

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness does not comprehend it.

It has become epidemic – distracted driving – people barreling down the road, one hand on the wheel while the other hand is texting a message. Is the message that they’re sending important? No, it’s trivial. It’s minutia. Yet, they’re willing to gamble on death and completely disregard the collateral damage they could cause. They dart their eyes back and forth until they fixate on the text – reading it – comprehending it – then BAM!

The example of texting and driving is a microcosm of a deeper issue of our culture – it’s an expression of how people are in their foolish character. People who flippantly are moving through life yet are constantly distracted by the trivial and minutia of life – suddenly and without warning, they cause a crash.

I can’t tell you how often I’ve seen this demonstrated in people’s lives. People who are oblivious to the dangers around them are blind to what is happening in the world. People that are obsessed with the worthless – inconsequential matters of life.

A few days ago, I noticed a news website – next to a story about hundreds of people who were tragically killed was a story about a breakup of a Hollywood couple who haven’t achieved or contributed one ounce of purpose to this earth. It was alarmingly disgusting to me.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. Share on X
