Day 194: Walk with the Wise

Proverbs 13:20

Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.

Principle

You gain wisdom either through pain or through mentors – choose mentors.

About twenty-five years ago, I started playing golf with a gentleman that was a good season, about 15 years older than me. He was a successful professional and enjoyed the comforts of a prosperous career. His children were entering their teenage years. I could see him navigate their experiences with wisdom and, at times, challenging circumstances. Not only did he teach me the basics of golf – a game that I enjoy – he mentored me in many other ways. I learned from his experience.

That’s the beauty of walking with someone who has experience in life that you haven’t had yet – you prosper at their expense.

Now, I’m at the other end of the spectrum – helping younger men navigate life’s challenges – hoping to help them avoid some of the pains that come from bad experiences.

Choose a mentor - gain some wisdom - walk with the wise. Share on X
