Day 176: Unreliable People

Proverbs 25:19

Putting confidence in an unreliable person in times of trouble is like chewing with a broken tooth or walking on a lame foot.

In times of stress, you need confidence.

A few months ago, I injured my foot during a Crossfit routine. As much as I wanted to keep going and continue my workout, I just couldn’t. My foot wouldn’t allow me. It has taken months to heal. My steps became unstable due to the pain that shot up my leg.

When you’re facing the challenges of life, you need to have stability. You want to be sure-footed. You want to know that your footing will give you the support you need to resist the challenge.

Our Advisor likens us putting our confidence in irresponsible people as walking on a lame foot. That’s a great analogy.

Several years ago, I went through a challenging time. I was amazed at how people I had helped, supported, even some that I employed, scattered at the first sign of trouble. I weathered the storm and came through it with my integrity intact; however, I also made a list of people who proved to be unreliable during times of crisis.

Since then, I have had several friends face challenges. So I have made it a point to step up my help for them – make phone calls – write notes – even send money. I want to prove myself reliable for them.
