Day 17: Protect Your Home From Evil

Proverbs 17:1

Better a dry crust with peace and quiet,
than a house full of feasting, with strife.

Principle

Where there is strife there is every evil at work.

Atmosphere matters. It is vitally important that we protect the atmosphere of our homes and places of work. Our Advisor recommends chewing on morsels rather than feasting where there is strife. Why so important?

“Wherever there is jealousy (envy) and contention (rivalry, selfish ambition, strife), there will also be confusion (unrest, disharmony, rebellion) and all sorts of evil and vile practices.” – James 3:16 (Amplified Version)

My wife and I have made it an absolute rule that our residence is a home of peace. We do not allow strife in our home – either through family members, guests, television, or internet. We guard our home as if strife is an invasion of evil.

Abraham’s wife, Sarah was so concerned about strife that she recommended to her husband to banish Hagar and Ishmael from their home. Ishmael was a mocker and full of strife who was jealous and threatened Isaac’s future. The Bible says to drive out the mocker and out goes strife.(Proverbs 22:10)

Men, you’re the gate of authority to your home. Don’t allow strife to take up residence in your home.
