Day 156: Don’t Expose Yourself
Proverbs 5:15-17
Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well. Should your springs overflow in the streets, your streams of water in the public squares? Let them be yours alone, never to be shared with strangers.

Don’t expose yourselves to public disgrace.
This is an incredible use of a double entendre – saying one thing to be understood to convey a message that would be socially awkward or even offensive to state directly.
Solomon argues about the indignity and shame of what is meant to be a private matter exposed to be publicly displayed. This indecent exposure concerns the life-seed of humanity flowing in the streets, not just water from a cistern. His suggestive advice is not to allow your stream to be shared with strangers.
This culture has lost all refinement regarding their private affairs – sexting, indecent photography, sexual suggestions, etc. – they are exposing themselves to public disgrace.
Men, we’re not dogs! We’re not homeless animals roaming the streets looking for a hydrant to relieve ourselves.
