Day 151: Drunkenness – It’s Not for Kings!

Proverbs 31:4

It is not for kings, Lemuel – it is not for kings to drink wine, not for rulers to crave beer, lest they drink and forget what has been decreed and deprive all the oppressed of their rights.

Principle

Drunkenness is not for kings.

Bathsheba’s pet name to her son, Solomon, was Lemuel, which means “for God.” Her motherly teachings are now passed on to us – teachings designed for a king living for God.

So, it’s good for us as we press toward the mark of a higher calling of authentic manhood. We’re not satisfied to remain the average guy – we want to excel – to live to the ideal of authentic manhood – to be a true FivestarMan.

Today’s instruction is to establish the boundary of our appetite concerning drinking wine and beer – we are to keep our wits – to remain sober-minded as leaders. We have too many responsibilities as leaders to be exposed to drunkenness – too many people counting on us for us to lose our heads.

She says that wine and beer are best used as sedatives to dull the pains of life’s despair and terminal death. That’s not us! We’re leaders. We’re men who are pursuing life at a higher level. We’re authentic men.
