Day 140: Representing God to Our Children
Proverbs 20:7
God-loyal people, living honest lives, make it much easier for their children.
Principle
Live in such a way that your children receive the byproduct of your life.
Recently a man approached me after I spoke on how God’s blessings upon our lives have a generational impact. Interestingly, he took exception to the idea that God is a good enough god for us to be blessed in the first place. As he attempted to make his case – misquoting scripture – taking scripture out of context – completely misinformed on sound doctrine, I asked him a couple of questions regarding his understanding of God. Unfortunately, he did not know the character and nature of God; he had a couple of ideas that he was determined to drive home to me. When he saw that I wasn’t being persuaded, he raised his voice and postured as to hit me. My host pastor and an usher intervened. The pastor told me that the man had already caused issues in other churches before attending this church.
I can’t tell you how disappointing it was to see this man’s anger and inappropriate behavior was on full display in front of his wife and child. Sadly, his child will be influenced by his irrational behavior and bad theology.
The daily decisions that we make, our understanding of God, and how we communicate His character will affect our own lives and the lives of our children.
