Day 321: The Banquet of Bitterness

Proverbs 17:1

A meal of bread and water in contented peace
is better than a banquet spiced with quarrels.

Principle

Peace with a little is better than a banquet of bitterness.

As I write, Thanksgiving is approaching. It is designed to be a day for us to pause and express our gratitude toward God’s faithfulness to us. It’s also an excellent time for us to let those close to us know how much we appreciate them.

Unfortunately, some families will gather for feasting yet chew on each other’s bitter morsels instead of showing gratitude for one another.

It would be better for them to stay at the home of peace, eating bread and drinking water, rather than have “all of the fixings” of Thanksgiving.

I grew up around quarreling. It was exhausting. It was very frustrating to go through the emotions of a holiday without the spirit and purpose behind it.

I decided that I wouldn’t have that in our home. Our holidays are times of joy, gratitude, and family celebrations. We’ve made the holiday season a time of worship. It is so exciting to have the family over to the house and express our gratitude for God and one another.
