In only their second World Cup qualifying year to date, the Ecuadorian National team enjoyed it’s most successful tournament in 2006, reaching the round of 16 after stunning Poland and Costa Rica. However their run met it’s end by the infamous foot of David Beckham and the team from England. With the game a stalwart at 0-0 in the 59 minute, Beckham netted a free kick that “La Tri” was unable to overcome.  Despite the disappointment the 2006 club is still regarded as the best Ecuadorian club in history.
